Strong woman plate/small square or round
The Strong Woman Story
For my 40th birthday, I received a rosemary from a close friend. She told me that her friend’s Mother always told her that a house that has a rosemary bush in the garden is a sign that a strong woman lives there. This story is the inspiration behind the strong woman line of pottery.
This friend has the first piece of strong-woman pottery that I ever made.
Since then I have made many pieces of Strong Woman pottery, for all Strong Women - Strong Mothers, Strong Sisters, Strong Aunts,
Strong Friends, Strong Daughters, Strong Grandmothers.
From one strong woman to another, I hope you enjoy.
Sincerely,
Amy Holland
This 4 by 4 plate was hand built. After rolling out the stoneware clay, a piece of fresh rosemary, cut from my garden, is pressed into the clay and then pulled out leaving it's impression behind. The flattened clay is then slumped and formed over a wooden mold. After the clay takes the shape it is removed from the form, dried, and bisque fired. After this first firing, the rosemary image is colored with green mason stain and wiped off leaving a haze of color throughout the plate. I hand letter each plate or mug, dip it in a clear, food safe glaze, and fire it again.
All plates will resemble one another, but because each one is hand built, hand lettered, and pressed with fresh rosemary they will not be identical:)
A note card with this story is included with every piece.
